Hiring badly costs more than not hiring

What I did: hired quickly to cover an operational gap. Why it seemed like a good idea: there was a backlog and it looked like the way to relieve it.

What happened: the gap was still there, but now with a poorly fitted person who also consumed supervision time.

What I'd do differently today: define the process and the role first, and only then look for the person.
